Boat Name: Pesci Piccolo
Boat Type: Power - Recreational
Manufacturer: Crownline Model: 288BR (bowrider) Year: 2003
Feet: 28 Inches: 8
Primary use: Family Boating
Description: The 288BR is a BIG bowrider with a comfortable, private head, and a small cuddy for solo bunking or lots of storage. For a family looking to host guests for day trips, it's a lot more practical than a small cruiser.
Cockpit: We bought the boat because the cockpit has lots of seating in a simple layout. There's only one cut-through to the swim platform, which creates an extra seat. Two cut-throughs look cool, but at the expense of seating continuity.
Helm is to starboard, and visibility is good.
Cabin: Beneath and in front of the helm there is a mini-cuddy cabin. It could sleep one comfortably or two in a pinch, but it would be more like "camping out" than in a true cruiser. We intend to use it for big storage (rafts, boards, etc.).
Construction: Very solid, heavy construction. Hatches and doors are very dense and heavy.
Handling: As a heavy boat, it needs a lot of power to come out of the hole; but with twin 5.0 Mercruiser MPIs and Bravo 3 drives, the boat HAS a lot of power. Acceleration is very good, and with twins, handling is very good.
Engine: Twin Mercruiser 5.0MPIs with Bravo 3 drives. Very quick onto plane, and with a strong top end.
General: We use the boat for family fun and cruising.
From the Manufacturer: Crownline 288 BR's Hidden Berth A bowrider with a berth? Who ever heard of such a silly (and downright wonderful) thing? The people at Crownline Boats, for one.
The Crownline 288BR, the company's biggest bowrider, has a berth hidden inside its port console. This certainly isnt the first bowrider with a berth, but what we like about the compartment on the 288 BR is that it doesn't share space with a head. The head has its own compartment built into the helm console on the starboard side. Call us weird, but no matter how clean the head might be, we don't want to sleep next to it — and with the 288BR, that's not a concern.
A compartment light and a portlight offer illumination, and a CO1 detector comes standard, for extra peace of mind. Add it all together and you have one of our favorite bowriders. |
