Legacy's New 32 foot Downeast Cruiser
The traditional, downeast-style cruiser is built by Freedom Yachts of Rhode Island. Designed by Mark Ellis, the boat shares the same, proven underbody design as her bigger sisterships. The ride promises to be smooth and stable with the benefits of a deep vee and the seakeeping ability that comes with a keel and broad chines aft. She also shares the same clean-running, underwater exhaust as those boats.
And she will get up and go: a 27 knot top and 23 knot cruise is expected from an efficient electronic 380 hp Cummins diesel.
Noteworthy about the layout is a bridgedeck that’s just waiting to host friends and family with two long settees and room to spare. The helm and co-pilot seats are cleverly configured so that they lift up out of the settee and the forward arm of the settee forms a backrest when driving, the seat lowers to finish off the settee at anchor or at the dock. Below, there's a generous berth, a head with separate shower and a galley with lots of stowage and prep area.
 Legacy 32: Floorplan
If you are the type of boat buyer who looks beyond the layout, there are several things to look forward to in the new Legacy 32. First and foremost is the hull structure. Legacy has gone to fabricating all their hulls and decks by infusing Core-Cell coring and fiberglass with all vinylester resins. The resulting laminate is exceedingly strong and durable with a high strength-to-weight ratio that gives the boat more efficient performance. The Core-Cell coring is completely resistant to water, should the outer skin of the boat be compromised, and the vinylester resin prevents osmotic blistering. This is the most durable hull available in boating today.
Legacy is doing nice things with the boat’s electrical system, too. Get on board, flip a single breaker and all the systems and lights turn on as they would at home. All the wireways are foam-filled to insulate against noise and throughout the boat sound deadening is an area to which special attention has been paid. There is an excellent insulation package to keep noise to the barest minimum.
