Luhrs Corporation is setting a bold new course with the launch of its brand new 41 Open. This innovative, commanding sportfisher is BIG where it counts, and offers the hardcore fishing enthusiast all the essentials for bluewater trophy gamefish expeditions.
An Extension of the Successful 41 Convertible
The 41 Open is an extension of the 41 convertible introduced in October, 2003. It’s clearly one of the largest boats in its class, with an overall length of 44’6” -- 42’3” without the pulpit -- and spanning a wide 15’9” beam.
“This is one of the biggest open production boats available,” said David Taylor, Luhrs Director of Sales and Marketing. “Based on our feedback from dealers, focus groups and our loyal owners, there is a great deal of pent-up demand for a larger model in this category, so we are expecting that the 41 Open will be a huge success.”
In addition, the 41 Open features a beautiful flared Carolina-style bow with a 56-degree entry angle for a dry, soft, wave-slicing ride, and an 18-degree deadrise at the transom to soften the re-entry. Performance is a major selling feature of this new model.
“We designed this boat for awesome fishability and comfort,” added Gene Corrales, Luhrs Director of Product Development. “It’s roomy, has a large clean cockpit and bridge deck with lots of comfortable seating, and the hull delivers a fantastic ride. The 41 Open also continues the Luhrs tradition of value with its unbelievable list of standard equipment and amenities that are often packaged as expensive options on other boats.”
A Powerful Fishing Machine
According to Taylor, this powerful fishing machine has been designed and engineered to meet the exacting demands of the serious fisherman who enjoys the hunt as much as the fight. Piloting the craft is done in comfort from the raised helm that looks through a large-paneled windshield that is sealed water tight to the hard top. This design makes for a dry ride, and also eliminates blind spots caused by windshield frames that are sometimes at eye level. A single Devine® custom helm chair fronts a fully instrumented helm pod with electronic controls and plenty of room to house all the latest fish-finding, radar and navigation technology. The entire helm console lifts up for easy serviceability. Immediately to port is seating for two, with a smartly designed back rest that flips toward the bow for watching fishing action from the bridge.
The features on the huge bridge deck continue, and make it a highly functional and enjoyable living area. There is a generously sized L-shaped seat that lifts to store four rods beneath. Aft is further seating that also has a back rest that can be reversed for watching baits. Additional seating starboard can also be turned into an optional deluxe bait prep station or a summer galley with upgrades like an electric grill and adjustable refrigerator/freezer. Optional air conditioning and a snap-in third side enclosure can be added for an extra level of comfort.
Up top, the upper command station perched on the welded aluminum tower is perfect for sighting and fishing battles. It features full instrumentation, electronic controls, hydraulic steering, as well as room for repeating electronics. An acrylic sunshade offers long lasting and quiet protection, plus there’s spacious comfort from the three-person cushioned bench. The arsenal of eight rocket launchers adds to the 41 Open’s appeal.
Plenty of Walkaround Fighting Space
On the strike, an enormous 100-square foot cockpit offers plenty of walk-around fighting space. Re-set bait from the 50-gallon live well in the transom, while taking full advantage of the molded bait prep station with tackle drawers, sink and pressurized water faucet. Two in-deck 45-gallon fish boxes with macerators have plenty of room to hold the keepers. Four rod holders in the gunwales add to the spread, and there’s room for five rods to be stored in the extra spacious cockpit sole after the battle is won. An optional freezer/refrigerator can be added to the ready box.
Plus all the Important Creature Comforts
While the 41 Open is all about fishing, the Luhrs Design Team hasn’t forgotten all those important creature comforts that mean so much after a long day of sun, grinding and gaffing.
The salon sports 6’4” headroom, trimmed in rich cherry hardwoods and veneers. Relax and entertain in style with the latest electronics including a pivoting flat panel 23” TV with DVD, and a Bose® stereo system with surround sound. Easy maintenance and long-lasting Everwear® laminate floors are used throughout the living area. An innovative custom-designed Ultraleather® sofa provides dinette seating for six, storage for seven rods behind the seat back, and electrically slides out to a double berth with just the touch of a button.

The forward stateroom rests behind sliding raised-panel wood privacy doors. It features an island berth with queen innerspring mattress topped with luxurious Visco® memory foam; private head entrance; built-in cedar-lined storage bin below; and two cedar-lined hanging lockers. A separate AC fan control keeps the temperature in the stateroom comfortable, and an optional flip-up 15” monitor and DVD player allows private entertainment.
Smart appointments continue in the well-proportioned galley. Corian® countertops; custom sink; built-in stainless steel microwave; coffeemaker; dual drawer adjustable refrigerator/ freezers; and two-burner electric stove are all standard. Built-in storage is plentiful above and below counter, and in the drawers built into the companionway steps.
The 41 Open’s roomy and functional head has a built-in vanity with Corian® top, designer lighting, and mirrored medicine cabinet. A stand-up shower stall with door and flip-down seat, Vac-u-flush® head with macerator and holding tank are sure to be appreciated by captain and crew.
Twin Cummings Engines with 645 HP
The power to get to the fishing grounds and return safely is accomplished with proven, quality engine and drive components. Standard is twin Cummins® QSC 8.3 engines with 540 HP, but the first 10 boats produced will receive the Cummins® QSM 11 rated at 580 HP. Diesel power options are offered up to 645 HP. Nautiloy® propeller shafts are used to drive the Nibral® propellers. The spacious, heavily insulated engine room below provides standing room access for easy power plant maintenance. Aft of the engine room is a compartment that is separated from engine heat for comfortable servicing of generators, battery banks, fuel water separators and other filters, plus there’s storage for an additional five rods.
Bronze thru-hull with sea cocks are used below the water line and three bilge pumps are supplied. Two engine-driven emergency pumps are standard equipment. Manganese bronze rudders and struts steer the ship and smooth out the ride. |
