AMERICAP II

AMERICAP II™ is a rating rule developed to fill a need that US SAILING identified by listening to sailors. Racers recognize that rating systems that use single-number ratings to cover all courses and all wind conditions are simpler, but they are also less accurate. Many racers also feel that IMS-like measurements of hulls, rigs, etc. help to ensure more accurate prediction of a boat’s actual speed. However, most racers also feel that their racing aims do not warrant the rigor and cost of IMS. AMERICAP II™ was designed to meet their needs.
