Abeking Yachts are created in Lemwerder, Germany, just southwest of Bremen. Georg Abeking and Henry Rasmussen founded the Lemwerder shipyard in 1907 and have produced over 6,400 sailing vessels since that time. Abeking & Rasmussen feature environmentally friendly workshops that contain high-performance production facilities for boat construction. Abeking & Rasmussen yachts are built to a specification of 98 feet in length minimum, are incorporating SWATH ship technology for space and comfort, and use varied materials: wood, aluminum, steel, or fiberglass. A&R's technical perfection is shown in M/Y Excellence III, a 185 foot yacht launched at the end of 2001, won the 2001 Superyacht Award for Best Power Interior. A&R also uses their technological flair for yacht refitting.

Alden Yachts , "America's Boatbuilder," is located in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, USA. Crafters of semi-custom sailing and motor yachts, Alden Yachts received the Steve Collins "All Around Winner" award at the 2002 Newport International Boat Show. One of the yachts displayed at the show featured the new epoxy composite standard for both sailing and power construction, where epoxy resin is combined with E-Glass, Kevlar, or Carbon Fiber laminates. Ariel, a longtime commissioned Alden yacht, won the "Second in Class" finish in the 14th Marion to Bermuda Race. Power yachts are sized between 40 and 60 feet long, and sailing yachts are sized between 43 and 72 feet long. Yacht building is only one aspect of this full service provider, which also offers yacht brokerage, yacht charters, and a variety of repair and yard services.

The name "Alerion" (which literally means Heraldic Eagle) first gained nautical prominence back in 1912, when Nathaniel Herreshoff designed a 26' sloop for his person use - and called it "Alerion". The timeless appeal of this design has spawned a host of imitations but the Alerion Express 28 is cast in a different mold. Rather than attempting a warmed- over re-creation of an old classic, Designer Carl Schumacher has drawn a yacht that retains the traditional look topside, but is completely modern in rig, underbody and construction detail.

Baltic Yachts advocates composite construction by using the materials to build yachts. In 1973, a group of five men collaborated with locals from the Bosund, Finland area to build a light displacement sailboat to perform better than the competitors and make the sailing experience enjoyable for cruising and racing sailors. Today, the yachts are highly individualized and benefit from on-site design and engineering groups working with customers. At Baltic, design starts out as an iterative process to determine performance and weight. Baltic also has its own control system for accurate weight and center of gravity calculations that solidifies the design for use in construction. The lamination process allows for less resin usage. Yachts produced by Baltic can measure up to and over 200 feet in size.

Bavaria Yachts ranks among the largest yacht builders in Europe. Bavaria is located in Giebelstadt, Germany. The company was founded to produce sailing yachts that optimized price for performance. Bavaria makes use of modern manufacturing processes to reduce price. Assembly line production is employed for hulls and decks. As the deck fittings are mounted, the hulls are fitted on two assembly lines. An air-conditioned lamination hall, by temperature and humidity monitoring, aids in the yacht construction while hull and deck molds go through an 18-stage production. Sandwich-laminate technology is used on the part of the hull that sits above water and in the deck, which improves stiffness and eliminates condensation. The sizes of Bavaria sailing yachts range from 33 to 50 feet in overall length.

Beneteau Yachts is renowned worldwide for its construction of sailing boats and yachts, with a long history of wins and awards. In 1884, Benjamin Beneteau, a qualified ship building worker, decides to build fishing trawlers and opens Beneteau Boatyards in the town of Croix-de-Vie in France. Dehler Yachts are world-renowned performance sailing yachts native to Germany. A part of the Dutch-Canadian Neptune group, Dehler’s factory is located in Meschede-Freienohl, Sauerland, Germany. The factory facilities include a research department. Innovations line Dehler’s history, such as the central winch system and the self-tacking jib. Hulls, made of polyester, are hand-laid up and the resins used guard against ultraviolet rays and harsh chemicals. While still in their respective molds, the hull and deck are joined together by lamination. The sailing yachts produced range from 25 feet to 47 feet in length. Among many other Dehler awards, the Dehler 36 has been given the “Boat of the Year” award in France and in Germany. Almost all of the yachts are European certified as A CE construction.

Freedom Yachts has a full history of manufacturing yachts for worldwide sailing. Since 1976, over a thousand freestanding rig sailing yachts have been produced by Freedom, located in Middletown, Rhode Island. Fiberglass hulls with directionally-oriented glass are in use at Freedom, which provides owners with a lighter weight, stronger hull. The core of the yachts is built with end-grain balsa wood, again lightening and strengthening the construction, as well as adding noise dampening to the hull. Freedom uses a labor-intensive process called tabbing to cinch interior furniture, and to make the yacht more sturdy. The port material is stainless steel, in place of the usual aluminum. Freedom sailing yachts range from 35 feet to 45 feet in length. The mast heights range from 54 feet to 63 feet.

Hallberg-Rassy Yachts is a company that resulted from two shipyards. Two competing shipyards were in contention for seven years before Christoph Rassy bought Harry Hallberg’s yard, following Hallberg’s retirement. So today, the Hallberg-Rassy shipyard is located in Ellõs, Sweden, and the hull factory (Hallberg-Rassy Marinplast AB) is located in Kungshamn. Hallberg-Rassy sailing yachts, with hull lengths from 31 to 62 feet, are constructed to tolerate extremely poor conditions, based on experience with the North Sea. Hallberg-Rassy builds grid structures that are attached to the inside bottom of hulls for extra strength. Keels are lead-cast to keep the size-to-weight ratio low. The HR 40 received two awards for both Best Liveaboard Cruising Boat and Best Overall Vessel by Cruising World magazine.

Hinckley Yachts - a company of firsts – was founded in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Hinckley yachts are semi-custom built in both motor and sailing styles, ranging from 29 feet up to 70 feet in length. In 1928, Henry R. Hinckley started the company with a workboat focus. Today, Hinckley pleasure cruising is produced and serviced in Southwest Harbor and Trenton, Maine, Rhode Island, Maryland, Georgia and Florida. Hinckley pioneered the American transition to Kevlar brand hybrid composites for decks and hulls alike. The Hinckley Company was the initial yacht builder to use the SCRIMP brand process and DualGuard brand composite construction, resulting in sturdier, lighter, and environmentally friendlier laminates. Also, Hinckley was the first to combine jet propulsion into a semi-custom yacht.

Hunter Yachts has its roots in the Luhrs family, with Warren Luhrs’s avid sailing. Warren decided that the sailing industry could benefit from production line manufacturing, hence releasing the premiere Hunter sailboat in 1973. Today, three facilities comprise the Hunter building yards: at Alachua, Florida, the Composite Technologies division in East Lyme, Connecticut, and the United Kingdom’s Luhrs Marine Limited. The Alachua facility constructs boats in the 24 to 50 foot range, while the East Lyme facility builds boats from 9 to 21 feet long, and the UK facility handles mid-size sailboat production. Hunter sailboats feature Kevlar® laminate from the stem to the keel sump, and pioneered the usage of stainless steel arches. Hunter is one of the initial recipients of Marine Industry Certification.

Hylas Yachts , headquartered in Marblehead, Massachusetts, builds semi-custom performance sailing yachts that are cost-effective. Hylas yachts are manufactured at a shipyard named Queen Long Marine in Taiwan. Sizes of the sailing yachts range from 46 to 66 feet long, and include raised saloon and pilothouse versions. Optionally available on the smaller yachts and a standard on the larger yachts is the usage of Twaron™, a special fiber designed to be multiply stronger than steel, and both stronger and markedly lighter than fiberglass. Twaron™ also has the benefit of perforation reduction. Vinylester resins for lamination and two layers of epoxy barrier coat are applied to Hylas yachts, to avoid osmotic blistering. Crusing World Magazine named the Hylas 54 "Boat of the Year" for Full Size Cruiser.

Irwin Yachts provide luxury sailing and cruising opportunities for owners. Ted Irwin has designed thousands of sailboats, built under the company Irwin Yacht International, in a large range of sizes: from 25 feet to 85 feet. The original company was based in both Clearwater and St. Petersburg, Florida. There has been a break in production since 1992, but Gene Gammon partnered with Ted Irwin to restart the Treasure Island, Florida company and produce a newer line of yachts to be built in Auckland, New Zealand, focusing on the larger sizes. These larger sizes are the 56, 72 and 85 yacht models, with the 56 and 72 models having a 10-knot cruising speed. Irwin Yacht International wants to attract the buyers who are looking to upgrade the size of their yacht in a custom, affordable manner.

Island Packet Yachts evolved from the dream of a single naval engineer to produce a cruising-only boat. Bob Johnson designed a boat with a different style of keel, and retained his home kitchen as the sales office. Today, his keel design became the basis for the Full Foil Keel®, and official offices are located in Largo, Florida. Bob Johnson continues to collaborate with the Island Packet designers to produce 36 to 51-foot yachts. The Full Foil Keel® is a one-piece hull form, featured with a shielded propeller and rudder. DurashieldTM protects the deck and hull topside from cracks, and Island Packet’s PolyClad®2 (a combination of PolyClad, fiberglass and vinylester resin) guards against blistering. The story of J/Boats is a classic entrepreneurial tale: With a $20,000 investment, and a speedy 24-foot sailboat that Rod Johnstone built in his garage, Rod & his brother Bob Johnstone went into business. That was 1977. Now, that boat (the J/24), has become the most popular recreational offshore keelboat in the world.

Outbound Yachts , of Newport Beach, California, has constructed a semi-custom offshore cruising yacht, the Outbound 44. The yacht is designed to be able to either be customized or exchanged at the system or component level. The late Carl Schumacher designed the Outbound 44. Schumacher blended the moderate displacement design with an underbody developed for rapid travel and harsh weather conditions. The Hampton Boatbuilding Company, located near Shanghai, China, was Outbound’s selection to manufacture the yacht. Outbound chose to use the hand laying method to construct its fiberglass hull of moderate displacement. The long fin keel of the yacht is molded along with the hull in place of using keel bolts. The Outbound 44 is built in accordance with the American Boat and Yacht Council regulations.

Perini Navi Yachts is the outcome of a creative person and his ability to innovate. Fabio Perini started his career in the paper industry, following his family’s lead. He invented an automated paper machinery product at age 17. Perini brought this technology in a modified form to the yachting industry. Rivolta Marine is the branch that builds yachts: the work of Renzo Rivolta and his son Piero, headquartered in Sarasota, Florida. Sabre Yachts manufactures luxury sailboats to the certification levels of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the American Boat and Yacht Council, and the European CE. The yachts have been hand-built in South Casco, Maine since 1971. Sabre yachts have customization ability on various levels, and Sabre uses concepts that reflect agile manufacturing in order to provide this flexibility. The sailing yachts produced by Sabre are a combination of a cruising yacht with a racing yacht, from 38 feet to 42 feet in length. They are designed to carry a heavy or high load. Sabre keels are formed to achieve maximum lift for the yacht, while maintaining solid performance. The sail plans are created with both light winds and harsh weather in mind. The Sabre 426 won Sail Magazine’s Top Ten award.

Saga Yachts resulted from Allan Poole, a sailboat builder and manager, and a small team of other builders coming together. In 1995, the company was formed in the popular boat-building area of St. Catharines, Ontario. The yachts today blend performance and luxury; they are built for speed, offer heavy detailing, and easy-to-care-for exteriors. Saga yachts can have a unique rig called the Variable Geometry Rig™, which is taken from the design of singly manned racing boats. Under a variety of sailing conditions, this rig allows for simple steering. The MAX-WATERLINE™ hull, a light displacement hull, uses less energy to achieve speeds of wider cruising yachts. Interior space is also increased, and a narrower beam can remain in Saga yachts. The current Saga yacht line includes the Saga 35, 43 and 48.

Santa Cruz Yachts builds sailing yachts in an unusual location called “the chicken coop” in Santa Cruz, California. Santa Cruz is formerly known as Bill Lee Yachts, a company started in 1977. Bill Lee and several other designers were proponents of and originated ultralight sailing manufacturing. Today, almost all of the boats built since 1977 are still being sailed, in spite of criticisms of ultralight displacement. Santa Cruz’s lightweight and strong hull construction is achieved by a laminate sandwich procedure. Over the years, Santa Cruz has constructed yachts in the 27-foot to 72-foot range. Among other achievements, Santa Cruz 70 finished first in a Port Huron-to-Mackinac Island Sailboat Race. The Santa Cruz 52 captured Sailing World magazine’s Boat of the Year award.

Solaris Yachts is the brand name of a family-owned yacht building company named Cantiere Serigi based in Aquileia, Italy. Semi-custom and special project custom sailing yachts are the focus of Solaris yachts. The Cantiere Serigi yard contains six parts: composite works, fitting, woodwork and painting, workshops, haul/launch area, and the head offices. The philosophy adhered to by Serigi includes building Solaris yachts with leading technology, and keeping the owner familiar with a Solaris yacht from design through launch. Mahogany, teak wood, and cherry wood are carefully chosen for the interior design of a Solaris yacht. The hulls are designed for performance, and construction yields a very light, strong, and insulated hull. Solaris yachts range from a 36-foot cruiser to a 90-foot special project.

Swan Yachts are the brand product of Nautor’s Swan. Nautor’s Swan has been building sailing yachts of both performance and luxury since its inception in 1966. The boat building yard for Swan yachts is Oy Nautor Ab, in Finland on the Gulf of Bothnia. Pekka Koskenkylä established Oy Nautor Ab. Practically all of the Swan yachts manufactured over the years are still used today. Research and development continuously searches for advanced techniques, while Nautor holds to the modular construction philosophy for Swan yachts. This research led to the unique process of manufacturing composite rudder stocks by means of resin transfer molding. Swan yachts are built in various sizes from 45 feet to a superyacht at 112 feet in length. Nautor’s Swan holds the yearly Swan Cup, a sailing race known worldwide.

Sweden Yachts launched into the yachting world in 1976, with the construction of a yacht for America’s Cup competition. Since then, Sweden has progressed into worldwide production of luxury sailing yachts. Sweden Yachts’s yard is located in Stenungsund, Sweden, which builds between 25 and 30 yachts each calendar year. The yacht models are in sizes from 36 feet to 80 feet in length. Every yacht is designed and built to comply with European CE Boat Category A, an ocean-going vessel. The Park Avenue boom was created by Sweden, which blends the favorable attributes of a regular boom with a furler boom. The carbon fiber/epoxy boom eases the manipulation and maintains adjustability of the main sail. A Sweden Yachts 45 yacht had a “Round the Island Race” first place finish in Cowes, Island of Wight, UK.

Tartan Yachts works, by using current technologies, to create handmade sailing yachts for selective sailors. The company, led by Charlie Britton and consulting with Olin Stephens, produced its first yacht in 1960: a yacht that used new fiberglass technology hulls. Based in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, Tartan builds yachts that are 35 feet to 45 feet in length. Four points are stressed in Tartan philosophy: performance, construction, aesthetics/contemporary lines, and innovative/practical accommodations. Tayana Yachts are constructed at the Ta Yang Yacht Building Company, Ltd. in Kaohsiung Hsien, Taiwan. Ta Yang (meaning “big ocean” in Mandarin) has manufactured semi-custom cruising yachts since 1973. The sizes of Tanaya yacht range from 37 feet to 70 feet in length. Some of the choices offered on a Tayana yacht include aft or center cockpits, a pilothouse, or a deck saloon. The Tayana builder is ISO 9001 certified. Tayana yachts leads the worldwide yachting industry for custom interiors and joinery, giving customers a choice in living space setup. Designs for the yachts are rendered via Tayana’s Computer-Aided Design department, and several well-known naval architects have provided design work.

Trintella Yachts produces semi-custom cruising sailing yachts as a member of the Hamble Yacht Services Group. 1953 saw the start of what is now known as Trintella, in s’Hertogenbosch, Holland, under Anne Wever. Trintella’s yard was the premiere yard in Europe to use GRP construction for a yacht. Today, yacht production for Trintella is located in Hamble, United Kingdom, at the largest performance yachting yard in the UK. Trintella works with its principal designer, Ron Holland, to merge the heritage of Trintella style, such as the trademark doghouse, with state of the art technologies and performance hulls. Trintella is offering a new Classic Range of traditional-style 43 to 54 foot yachts, and current-style yachts in the 42 to 58 foot range, including a deck saloon version of the 58.

Wally Yachts , known widely for its sailing yachts, started building power yachts in 2001. The power models are the Wallytender, and Wallypower of three sizes. The Wallytender is a 45-foot long yacht that is rated at 50 knots with a certain twin-engine design. The Wallypower is available in 65 feet, 88 feet, and 118 feet lengths. The Wallypower 88, based off of the Wallypower 118, can move at a maximum rated 70 knots. The Wallypower 118 and 88 feature an angled superstructure that is reminiscent of a prism. The Wallypower 65 combines the openness of the Wallytender with the lines of the 118 hull for water performance. These yachts are constructed at Wally’s Intermarine yard in Italy.

Henri Wauquiez built his first sailing yacht in 1965 - the opening chapter in an on-going story of a passion for sailing and high quality boats : Wauquiez sailing yachts are famous around the world as comfortable, fast and reliable boats with earlier models still highly sought after by blue water aficionados.
Elisabethan 29s and Prétoriens have given way to Centurions and Pilot Saloons, but Wauquiez craftsmen are still motivated by the same passion : each new boat must be an example of excellence in seaworthiness and performance, styling and construction.

Wauquiez Yachts has been building sailing yachts of quality since 1965, when Henri Wauquiez built the premiere sailing yacht. Neuville-en-Ferrain, France is the site of the company shipyard. Today’s yacht lines are the Centurion and the Pilot Saloon. The Centurion line combines fashion, power, and speed with 40 foot and 45 foot models. The Pilot Saloon line brings together long-distance performance, with comfortable living and views via a raised saloon. An aft cockpit adds to the features of this sailing yacht, available in 41 foot and 43 foot models. The hulls at Wauquiez are hand-laid up and vinlyester resins present in the outer layers for osmosis protection. The infusion process is used to guard the environment, provide the right fiberglass/resin balance, and apply the vinylester resins.

In 1979, one of today’s most successful and quality orientated production yards was established in Denmark. During the 1980’s, X-Yachts designed, and built, winning IOR yachts for World Class Racing. Their success with this market attracted the attention of the cruising market, which was now looking for fast, quality, and comfortable sailing yachts. Nothing nothing more obvious, but to use their boat building experience from the fast racers, and combine this with building Performance Cruising yachts.
