Sea Ray 240 Sundancer

The New Sea Ray 240 Sundancer Difference!

Consistent with Sea Ray's spirit of reinvention comes the new 240 Sundancer, a longtime staple of the Sundancer line with an infusion of advancements. Still recognizably Sundancer, the new 240 is taken to the next level in space, comfort and power. "This is the baby of the cruising line," says Michael Smith, part of the design team at PD&E, Sea Ray's Product Development and Engineering facility. "It is replacing the existing 240."

One of the notable differences between this 240 Sundancer and the previous model is the use of space and seating in the cockpit. Owners will find more options with seating configurations, and the social flow of the cockpit benefits greatly. The helm seat is to starboard and is a single seat/bolster with a flexible companion seat. The companion seat is adjunct to the helm seat, but has no back. This allows the companion to sit forward, aft or to the side, facing the unique "bistro" seating arrangement along the port side.

"There are two seats mounted against the port coaming with a little swing-out table between them," says Smith. "So people sit almost opposing each other, but more at an angle. That, along with the flexible companion seat, creates a nice conversation area."

The 240 maintains its signature sleekness in details like the helm station's high-gloss "black coral" finish and SmartCraftTM instrumentation with low-glare blue night lighting, chrome bezels, a four-in-one gauge (fuel, oil pressure, trim and water temperature) and system tachometer (depth/water temperature, engine alarm/hour meter, fuel consumption/usage, trim level, voltage and digital speed).

Sea Ray 240 Sundancer: Bench Seat for Two at Transom

The 240 Sundancer easily accommodates your passengers. At the transom, there is another bench seat for two. "This is kind of like a sofa, very comfortable," Smith says. "But where you normally would have arm rests, there are individual cup holders integrated into the seat." The beverage center is located on the starboard side of the cockpit, with a sink and carry-on cooler with its own nook.

Additional space is evident in the cabin, which has more room than you would imagine in a 24-foot boat. Forward is a V-berth with a removable filler cushion. Stow the cushion and it becomes a lounge. Insert a table and it becomes a dinette for four. For quiet time, use the privacy curtain. A mid stateroom has a double berth with its own privacy curtain. The galley is complete with a microwave oven, a molded-in fiberglass sink, refrigerator and stowage top and bottom.

The 240 Sundancer is also equipped for getaways. The head is fully enclosed with a shower and shower curtain, portable MSD and a vanity with sink. The water system comes standard with a freshwater washdown spigot, a dockside water inlet, a 20-gallon water tank and a 6-gallon water heater.

Not surprisingly, the team at Sea Ray has created a great-riding boat from the inside out, powered by a standard 260-hp 5.0L MPI Bravo III MCM. Options include gasoline and diesel stern drives: 350 Magnum MPI Bravo III MCM (300 hp), 350 Magnum MPI Horizon Bravo III MCM (300 hp), fuel-injected MX6.2 MPI Horizon Bravo III MCM (320 hp) and a Volvo D3-160 diesel delivering 157 horses. Any of these will pop this Sundancer up on plane to give a little kick to your cruise.

All this and you can still slide it up on a trailer (8'6" beam) and motor anywhere, making the 240 Sundancer a smooth ride, in and out of the water.
